We’re thrilled to hear today that SIPs Scotland have been shortlisted for 2 categories in the Build It Awards; Best SIPs Home and Best Accessible/ Inclusive Home for Tighetebhu.
Tighetebhu is a 4-bedroom eco-home which has been built to the highest standards, with quality of finish considered throughout the build.
The house is made up of 2 main elements, the first being a large single storey, split level, curved entertaining area comprising of the kitchen, dining and sitting room, the second being the L-shaped accommodation element. There areas are linked with a large 2 storey atrium which gives light to the stairwell and upper landing.
The client chose to work with SIPs Scotland as they could provide a turnkey service from groundworks to SIPs kit through to the completed home, finished to the highest of standards.
The property is situated on the outskirts of the village of Inchture in Perth-shire, with the plot sitting next to a listed walled garden. After initially being rejected for planning permission the clients engaged AC Architects in 2015, who designed the building with a direct dialogue between the new building and the existing walled garden structure.
This approach was welcomed by the client, planning department and Historic Scotland with planning approval being secured in the summer of 2016.
From there, the client researched building partners and as a bespoke home builder and delivery partner for Kingspan TEK SIPs systems, SIPs Scotland by THCL were appointed in 2017 as main contractors for the project. This meant that the client was assured of consistency of workmanship and streamlined communications throughout the project from ground works through to the TEK SIPs kit design and build, to the final hand over of keys in June 2018.
The property consists of a large entertaining space comprising of a bespoke handmade kitchen/dining area/lowered lounge, sun room, 4 double bedrooms, cinema room, games room, plant room and double garage.
For accessibility the property was also fitted with a glass-fronted lift.
The curved kitchen/dining/lounge area required innovative use of faceted SIPs TEK panels, which were integrated with the bespoke curved steel lintels to support the curved stone feature lintols.
The roof curved kitchen/dining/lounge area was also covered with artificial turf.
Throughout the project, particular attention was paid to the specification of the property with the client choosing Kingspan TEK SIPs Panels, Proctor Wraptite Membranes, Scottish Quarried Winstone, a locally-made bespoke handmade walnut staircase, a fabulous cinema room with hand-made star constellation ceiling and bespoke sound system.
SIPs Scotland guided the client through each step of their home-building journey, from initial budgeting, to recommending specifications, to sourcing local craftsmen/materials where possible, to installing to the highest standards.
The clients’ decision-making process was always focused on building an eco-friendly home of outstanding architectural merit.
