SIPs Scotland are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Structural Timber Awards Custom & Self Build Project of the Year 2018.

The nominated project is Tighetebhu, a 4 bedroom eco-home which has been built to the highest standards, with quality of finish taken into account throughout the build.

The client brief was to build a bespoke eco-home and AC Architects were appointed in 2015 to design the property.

The property is situated on the outskirts of the village of Inchture in Perth-shire, with the plot sitting next to a listed walled garden. Due to the historic nature of the site, it was important to embrace the walled garden, creating a dialogue between the new building and the existing structure. One of the key design features was for the property to have a direct dialogue with the walled garden wall – however as the walled garden is listed, these walls couldn’t be incorporated into the design, the solution was to create a dialogue between the new building and the existing structure.

This approach was welcomed by the client, planning department and Historic Scotland planning approval was secured in the summer of 2016.

From there, the client researched building partners and as a bespoke home builder and delivery partner for Kingspan TEK SIPs systems, SIPs Scotland were appointed in 2017 as main contractors for the project. This meant that the client was assured of consistency of workmanship and streamlined communications throughout the project from ground works through to the TEK SIPs kit design and build to the final hand over of keys in June 2018.

The property consists of a large entertaining space comprising of a bespoke handmade kitchen/dining area/lowered lounge, sun room, 4 double bedrooms, cinema room, games room, plant room and double garage. For accessibility the property was also fitted with a glass-fronted lift.

Throughout the project, particular attention was paid to the specification of the property with the client choosing Kingspan TEK SIPs Panels, Proctor Wrap-tite Membranes, Scottish Quarried Win Stone, a locally-made bespoke handmade walnut staircase with SIPs Scotland guiding the client through each step of their home-building journey.

Our clients decision making process was always focused on building an eco-friendly home of outstanding architectural merit.
